Books

I have been an avid reader for years and years, decades, really.

I love everything from historical fiction, epic novels, bestseller fiction, memoirs, crime novels, biographies, and of course travel guides and inspiration.

Working as a librarian in our local high school opened up the genre of young adult books for me. I truly enjoyed researching what I thought our students would find interesting and worth picking up! It also gave me a chance to connect with students and ask questions about what they were interested in. 

Creating eye-catching displays of books and props was a highlight of my job as a librarian! This allowed me to be creative and catch students’ attention. Let’s be honest……most young people do not browse the shelves looking for a certain book. I knew I needed to catch their eye as they were walking past!

Although I don’t generally enjoying reading young adult books, I get excited when young people want to read! I love that there are so many subject options for them and an increasing amount of diversity in characters now. 

Since I retired from my position at the high school last spring, I’ve had a little more time to read for pleasure. At the beginning of January, I set a goal for myself of 50 books this year. At the rate I’m currently going, I feel confident that I will indeed reach my goal…..and surpass it!

Goodreads.com is a fabulous place to keep track of what you want to read, are currently reading, and have read. It’s a great place to read reviews about books you might be interested in, also. I have never kept track of the books I’ve read, but I do like the ease of Goodreads and I think I will enjoy looking back and remembering all of the interesting books I’ve read over the course of the year!

I will also keep you updated here about what I’m reading and a brief review once I’ve finished.
